The New York Times presentó un listado con las 100 mejores películas del siglo XXI, elaborado a partir de las preferencias de más de 500 figuras influyentes del cine.
En una iniciativa que buscó capturar lo más destacado del cine contemporáneo, el reconocido diario estadounidense The New York Times publicó una lista con las 100 mejores películas estrenadas entre 2000 y 2024.
El medio reunió las opiniones de más de 500 profesionales de la industria cinematográfica, entre ellos directores, actores y figuras influyentes como Pedro Almodóvar, Sofia Coppola, Barry Jenkins, Guillermo del Toro, Julianne Moore y Chiwetel Ejiofor, quienes compartieron sus 10 películas favoritas del siglo XXI.
“Parasite” (2019), dirigida por Bong Joon Ho, encabezó el listado con su potente crítica social. En segundo lugar aparece el clásico surrealista “Mulholland Drive” (2001) de David Lynch, mientras que el tercer puesto lo ocupa “There Will Be Blood” (2007), una intensa obra de Paul Thomas Anderson sobre la ambición y la codicia.
También destacan cintas como “In The Mood for Love” del director Wong Kar-Wai, y “Moonlight” de Barry Jenkins, reconocida por su retrato íntimo sobre la identidad y la marginalidad. En el noveno lugar se posicionó la aclamada cinta animada japonesa “El viaje de Chihiro” del maestro Hayao Miyazaki.
El listado incluye filmes de diversos géneros y nacionalidades, desde obras independientes hasta producciones comerciales que marcaron época. Entre ellas se encuentran “The Social Network”, “No Country for Old Men”, “Roma”, “Oppenheimer”, “La La Land”, “Amour”, “The Dark Knight” y “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, entre muchas otras.
Sobre “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, el medio señaló que “la película, a partes iguales divertida y desgarradora, enfatiza la fuerza con la que esos recuerdos, incluso los más terribles, nos moldean”. En tanto, “Get Out”, de Jordan Peele, fue destacada como una crítica potente al racismo contemporáneo.
El listado completo incluye 100 películas que, según los votantes, han marcado un antes y un después en la historia del cine reciente.
